From Ho Chi Minh to Phu Quoc

By air: Getting to Phu Quoc from Ho Chi Minh city has become very convenient and safe. You can book a round-trip flight ticket for 1.600.000 dong. Currently all domestic airlines are giving promotion to enhance this flight route.

By road: Traveling from Ho Chi Minh to Phu Quoc using cars can leave you with two options:

  • HCM – Rach Gia – Phu Quoc: Buy a seat on one of those coaches to Rach Gia for just 150.000. Normally it will take you 6 hours to get there. Then, hop on Super Dong express ferry to Phu Quoc and enjoy the next 2 hours and a half on the sea. The ferry ticket costs 330.000 for one adult. By taking this way the total cost for two ways is approximately 960.000 dong.
  • HCM – Ha Tien – Phu Quoc: Another way to reach Phu Quoc island is to take the 8-hour coach from Ho Chi Minh to Ha Tien, followed by 1.5-hour ride on the ferry. The total cost for two ways is 790.000 dong which is also more time – saving for your vacation.

Bear in mind,

  • It’s preferable to catch the 10 or 11 o’clock coach from well trusted companies such as Phuong Trang, Kumo,… to avoid overloaded buses.
  • On your arrival, stay calm, as many bike owners and taxi drivers will surround you. Keep an eye on your luggage as well.
  • You should book your ferry ticket one day in advance, the ticket box gets really busy during vacation peak. To make the most of your vacation, book the tickets departing at 8h and returning at 14h.Ma

By bike: If you prefer riding on your own motorbike, the route is similar to that taken by coach. Passengers on ferry, however, need to pay extra fee (120.000 dong) for each motorbike.

Transporting on the island

  •  From the harbor: From Bai Vong beach, you can ask one of those various motorbike riders for a ride to Duong Dong downtown. You should deal the price to 80.000 per person per ride. Or alternatively just take a taxi to your hotel.

Bicycles: Almost every hostels and hotels in Phu Quoc do offer free bikes or maybe charge a few thousand dongs. Getting around the island would be so much different with a bike, therefore this has turned into a popular method of transport for tourists.

Motorcycles: This is probably first choice for freedom seekers. Particularly famous with young travelers, comings and goings by motorbike is in fact easy, convenient, and fast. You can ask the hotel to rent one for you ( approximately 150.000 dong per motorbike)
